With Songs of Solace, we give voice to words of comfort set to the sublime music of Bach, Brahms, Boulanger, and Bruckner, featuring the wind instruments of Whatcom Chorale Sinfonia. The motet “O Jesu Christ, mein’s Lebens Licht” and Brahms’s “Begräbnisgesang” (“Song of Interment”) offer solace to those who grieve. Boulanger’s setting of Psaume 24, “The earth is the Lord’s,” is a stirring fanfare. Bruckner’s deeply spiritual Mass in E minor features extensive a cappella passages and eight-part harmonies.
